Potassium Hydroxide (also called Caustic Potash) is widely used in the cosmetic industry most commonly in the soap making process. Soaps created with Potassium Hydroxide are often softer than those created with Hydroxide-derived soaps. Potassium soaps require less water to liquefy, and can thus contain more cleaning agent than liquefied sodium soaps.
