1. Containers should be clean and dry. Glass being reused should be sterilized in boiling water for ten minutes and allowed to dry thoroughly. 2. Try to use a small spatula, cotton swab or ball to remove and apply lotions and creams. Your fingertips can introduce bacteria into your products. 3. Heat and light can alter the composition of your product. Store everything in a cool, dark place. 4. If something smells bad, it should be thrown out. 5. Be sure to label all of your creations and date them. Note: All natural cosmetics should be tested for skin sensitivity as you would any cosmetic preparation. IMPORTANT Never use metal containers or implements as a chemical reaction may occur, altering your fragrances. Use only enamel or glass pans to heat your mixtures. Always use bottled or distilled water, as tap water contains too many micro organisms and minerals which can destroy your products. Recipes calling for alcohol turn out best using Perfume Diluent, next best, Everclear 190 proof grain alcohol and then 100 proof vodka. Never use rubbing alcohol as the aroma will overwhelm your scented oils and be unpleasant. Glycerin should be blended with water in your recipes before its addition, to avoid bubbles.
